Huey Long was a depression-era populist politician from the state of Louisiana, a state of which he was essentially a dictator as governor from 1928 to 1932 and senator from 1932 until his death in 1935.
Long constantly railed against banks and oil companies, and during a time of extreme poverty throughout the nation, could very well have become president. Unfortunately, he was gunned down at the Lousiana state capital on September 10, 1935. He did leave us though with the following brief clip - a priceless description of America's two-party system.
