– On rohkea veto kutsua pikkuruinen Montenegro sotilasliitto Naton jäseneksi – se on samalla piikki Venäjän suorittamalle aggressiolle, kirjoittaa Hoover-instituutin tutkija Kori Schake Foreign Policyssa.

Sotilasliitto Naton jäsenmaiden ulkoministerit päättivät keskiviikkoaamuna kutsua Montenegron virallisesti jäsenekseen.

– Kolminkertainen hurraa-huuto lännelle, Schake kirjoittaa kirjoituksessaan, jonka otsikko on ”Siitäs sait, Vladimir!”

Lastentarhan touhua? Ihmiset, tässä on ihmishengistä kysymys, eikä piikeistä kenellekään... Jumakauta... EP.)

EP.)

Venäjä edelleen ostaa US treasureita, eikä pysty emitoida omaa valuuttansa ilman niitä. Koska tyhmä Venäjä on omaksunut Keskuspankkien järjestelmää.

EP)

– Moskova on pyrkinyt pitkään luomaan kuvan, että Nato aloitti aggressiollaan Kosovon sodan. (Ja kuka sitten aloitti? Montenegro??? vai Venäjä??? Kuka ryntäsi puolustamaan "sorrettuja" albanimuslimeja keskellä Eurooppaa? ja muutti Kosovon terroristi- ja huumeliigojen valmennusleiriksi ja trafikin keskukseksi? EP.)

EP.)

EP.)

Ja tässä on teille alkuperäisen artikkelin kirjoittaja. Enjoy!

VOICE

Take That, Vladimir!

It’s a bold move to invite tiny Montenegro to join the NATO alliance — and a rebuke to Russian aggression.
BY KORI SCHAKE
DECEMBER 2, 2015

Moscow is asserting itself as a resurgent and aggressive geopolitical player, destabilizing neighboring countries, stealing territory, claiming a sweeping “right” to defend the interest of Russian-speaking people wherever they choose to live, serially violating arms control agreements, engaging in military provocations against Western countries, and capitalizing on the hesitance of Western countries to position itself as the determiner of outcomes in the Middle East.

In this foreboding environment, NATO’s 28 governments just elected to invite the democratizing Balkan country of Montenegro to join an alliance committed to mutual defense. Three cheers for the West!

The military of Montenegro adds just 2,000 troops to the NATO arsenal of 3,508,000 and just $5 billion to the NATO pool of $892 billion. Its navy comprises five patrol boats and five landing craft. While Moscow might not be quivering with fear, NATO’s offer is a clear rebuke — proof that our decadent, disorganized, argumentative, and hesitant West can actually take a stand in defense of its values and security. It shows the importance of international institutions in creating norms and facilitating cooperation.

There will be those — knowledgeable and serious-minded — that oppose expanding the alliance. I was among them in 1999, believing Europe was best made whole and free (where do you see whole and free Europe? In Greece, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Iceland? EP.) by building a cooperative relationship with Moscow, and worried about defending countries exposed to Russia when that obligation would fall principally to the United States. (Did US ever have to defend anybody against Russia??? Ever? EP.)

But there are three weaknesses to that approach. First, it punishes those countries that want and, by their internal reforms and stabilizing foreign policies, have earned inclusion in our defense alliance. They are not to blame for Russia’s insecurity. (Why not, if it paranoia? EP.)

The Membership Action Plans that NATO develops for countries aspiring to join it require transparency in the functioning of government and commitment to democratic values. The fact that some member states fall short of these goals — authoritarian crackdown in Turkey; insidious corruption in Bulgaria, Romania, and Albania; Hungary’s creeping illiberalism (and what is that? EP.) — does not make it fair to punish other aspiring countries for these failures and in any event has led to even more rigorous standards.

Second, it diminishes our leverage on countries in transition to reform their societies and their foreign policies in ways that both they and we will benefit from. The magnetism of belonging to the West is one of NATO and the European Union’s strong cards to shape Europe’s “neighborhood.” We are ultimately more secure when countries become liberal in their politics and economics, and their desire to gain our protection (FROM WHAT? EP.) has been a significant factor in strengthening forces of reform within countries. This is soft power: the attractiveness of norms and the use of leverage to engender positive change. (Like in Bulgaria, Romania, Albania, or maybe Libya, Egypt or Iraq? Or Syria? EP.)

Third, it rewards Moscow for destabilizing its neighbors. (Destabilizing by what, by cheap deliveries of gas and oil? Like to Ukraine, Litva, Latvia, Estonia? By trade, over which the Baltic countries, Poland and Ukraine are still crying, demanding, that Russia continues to buy their däiry products and canned fish or apples, which were banned after the western sanctions upon Russia?  EP.)
A cooperative relationship with Russia proved impossible because of Russia, not because of NATO. (Based on what? In 1991 Russia had disarmed itself like a fool with no agreements, Nato and US hadn't. Nato has expanded to the russian borders with no reason to do it. Put some PROs in the neighboring countries, aimed at ... Iran. Russia is still buying US treasuries instead of investing in its own economy and cannot emit its own currency without it, because it had joined the Central Bank System, MVF and WTO. And Russia proved impossible to cooperate with? People, you are ignorent or vicious. Really. EP.)

Vladimir Putin is responsible for the West’s wariness. (Putin is responsible FOR EVERYTHING! Didn't you know? EP.) NATO allies have not been eager to prove the door remains open to future members: For example, Georgia’s bid has been effectively stalled by Russian aggression, despite strong advocacy from George W. Bush’s administration before 2008. Russia’s reprehensible behavior in Ukraine has changed the dynamic, however, revealing the Kremlin’s willingness to infiltrate countries and stoke violence to sustain governments as corrupt as their own. (What about US's reprehensable behavior in Ukraine? and by the way, is the present ukrainian government LESS corrupt than its previous? EP.)

Secretary of State John Kerry made the NATO case simply and best: “It’s a defensive alliance. It is meant to simply provide security.”

For Russia to object to NATO expansion is to support instability.

(Are you completely insane, Nato is at the borders of Russia already, it aims to be able to provide LEVERAGE in foreign relations against Russia, and you say Russia supports instability? Show me Russian military bases over the world - how many? and you surely remember over 800 USA and Nato military facilities over Europe (200) and the world. Bold, indeed. EP.)

The Russian establishment ought to ask itself why Montenegro so desperately wants to join NATO. The NATO alliance fought Montenegro as recently as 1999, when it came to the defense of Kosovo.
(Because, now it is a small and powerless dot of a country among the other 7 into which big and prosperous Jugoslavia had been transformed by Nato in that war. EP.)

Moscow has long tried to paint that war as NATO aggression, but the very governments the alliance was fighting against understand it differently. (Do they really? Who asked them??? EP.)  Montenegro has chosen to align itself with the values of the West, the governmental practices of the West, and the defense arrangements of the West. (Against whom? Iran? EP.)

Not that we should expect Moscow to be happy about all of this. Russia has tried to forestall any NATO expansion, with Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov saying in September it would be “a mistake, even a provocation.” And Putin’s spokesman announced there would be “retaliatory actions.” The Russian government announced the cessation of cooperative security programs as a first measure. The thing is, Russia will before much longer run out of countries to cut itself off from. Which, sadly, may be Putin’s actual objective: the complete isolation of Russia from democratizing influences.

(Yes, together with BRICS and SHOS, the EURAES is indeed deeply isolated from democratizing influences. I think, Russia has had enough of  "western democracy" since 1991, thank God, it is over. Russia is free, democratic and stable now. It has problems. Capitalism is bad for Russia. But it will be tamed in good time. At least, Russians (all of them inside one multicultural country) have learned again to love their country, not to hate or despise it. EP.)

Tiedusteluvirkailijalta vakava varoitus: Tänne Isis iskee Pariisin jälkeen

Terroristijärjestö Isiksen kerrotaan suunnittelevan iskua Britanniaan jatkotoimena Pariisin iskuille.
  • lonoo london
    Britanniaa varoitetaan terroriuhasta.
    ()
Isis aikoo tehdä terrori-iskun Isossa-Britanniassa jatkotoimena Pariisissa tekemilleen iskuille kolme viikkoa sitten, kertoo eurooppalainen terrorismin vastaiseen toimintaan erikoistunut virkailija CNN:lle.
Huolet on kuitenkin yhdistetty Britannian parlamentin keskiviikkona hyväksymiin ilmaiskuihin Syyriassa.

Luultavasti kovin kehnosti.
Suuri yleisö muodostaa käsityksensä asiantuntemuksesta paljolti tieteilijöinä esiintyvien haastatteluista. Ei suuri yleisö lue tiedejulkaisuja.
Media on täynnä asiantuntijalausuntoja suoltavia moottoriturpia.
Tämä johtaa mm. siihen kielteiseen tulokseen, että suuri yleisö pitää yhteiskuntatieteilijöitä itsestään selvyyksiä suoltavina pölvästeinä. Seurauksena on muutenkin huolestuttavasti kasvava tiedekielteisyys.
Useimmilta puuttuvat kokonaan jopa valtio-opin opinnot. Näiden päivystävien dosenttien julkaisuluettelo koostuu liki yksinomaan kotimaisista raporteista hyvin vaatimattomissa julkaisusarjoissa, kuten laitossarjoissa tai itse kustannetuissa projektijulkaisuissa.
He eivät myöskään ole tiedeyhteisön viljalti siteeraamia, kuten jokainen voi helposti havaita Publish or Perish -ilmaisohjelmalla.
Kukaan heistä ei ole Suomalaisen Tiedeakatemian jäsen. Sen jäsenet esiintyvät silmiinpistävän vähän suomalaisessa mediajulkisuudessa.
Miten tähän on tultu?
(Paavo Cajanderin suomennos)
Ilmiötä kutsutaan Dunning-Kruger -efektiksi eli ylivertaisuusvinoumaksi.
Kyseessä on kognitiivinen eli tiedollinen vinouma, jossa yksilö yliarvioi itsensä, esimerkiksi jonkin taidon hallinnassa.
Medialla on suuri vastuu valitessaan haastateltaviaan. Media on laiminlyönyt vastuunsa ja ylläpitää hölöttäjien kuplaa.
Ongelma on laajentunut jopa tiederahoittajien piiriin.

Kansainvälisen median huomio on kiinnittynyt venäläisen rynnäkkökoneen liikkeisiin Turkin ilmatilassa.
Ilmatilaloukkauksia on kyllä riittänyt.
Syyrian armeijan kannalta Latakian provinssi on erittäin tärkeä Aleppon alueen saartamiseksi. Aleppon ja Idlibin kaupunkien ympäristö on Syyrian presidentti al-Assadin vastaisten kapinallisten voimakkain keskus. Alueella toimii enimmäkseen maltillisia kapinallisia, mutta osa Aleppon maaseudusta on myös al-Nusran rintaman vahvaa aluetta.
Venäjän ensisijaisena tavoitteena Syyriassa on Al-Assadin hallinnon ja Syyrian armeijan tukeminen. Sotilaallisena tavoitteena Idlibin ja Aleppon alueiden haltuun ottaminen näyttäisi olevan keskeinen ja ensimmäinen tavoite.
Turkki on tukenut Syyrian kapinallisia monin tavoin. Pudotetun venäläiskoneen lentäjät haltuun (ilmeisesti) ottaneet turkmeenitaistelijat kuuluvat oletettavasti Turkin erikoisjoukkojen kouluttamiin noin 10 000 sotilaan Turkmeeniprikaatiin.

Kurdit Turkin vihollisina

Kurdien asuttama alue Turkissa on hyvin laaja.
Entisillä suurvalloilla on aina tietynlainen nostalgia vanhoja suuruuden aikoja kohtaan. Tätäkään aspektia ei pidä vähätellä. Turkki on edelleen sotilaallinen suurvalta alueella. Sillä on Naton toiseksi vahvin armeija.
Suomalaisiakin on mukana kouluttamassa Irakin Kurdistanin Peshmerga-armeijaa.
Turkki on mitä suurimmassa määrin yksi osapuoli Syyrian sisällissodassa siinä missä Venäjäkin. Turkki on kuitenkin välttänyt laittamasta Syyriaan maajoukkoja (ainakaan yksittäisiä erikoisjoukkojen kouluttajia lukuun ottamatta).
Turkki taas toimi loogisesti ampuessaan alas venäläiskoneen.
Jatkossa Venäjän on otettava eri tavoin huomioon Turkin läsnäolo rajan tuntumassa.

The downing of Russia’s bomber over Syria has revealed Ankara’s true interests in the war on Islamic State, Syria’s President Bashar Assad told Czech Television. He believes Turkey’s President Erdogan “lost his nerves” as Russia “changed the balance” on the ground.

“The failure of [Turkish President Recep Tayyip] Erdogan in Syria, the failure of his terrorist groups means his political demise, so he wanted to do anything in order to put obstacles in front of any success,” Assad said.“So, he did it, but I do not think it will change any balance. The war against terrorism is continuing.”

At the same time, the Syrian President said he does not think the incident over Syria would affect peace talks in the war-torn country.

“I think it has shown the relentlessness of Erdogan who, let us say, lost his nerves just because the Russian intervention has changed the balance on the ground,” Assad pointed out, praising the “Russian supportive participation” which is “going to be stronger.”

“I think there is no way back on that regard, whether he does it again, this way or another way,” he added.

Turkey, which backs the US and its coalition allies’ demand for President Assad to leave, has been insisting that it downed the Russian Su-24 bomber because the jet had violated its airspace for “17 seconds.” It also maintains that the jet’s crew had been warned prior to the attack. Moscow has repeatedly denied Ankara’s accusations, saying that the Turkish F-16 attacked the Su-24 without warning and over the Syrian territory. The surviving Russian pilot, Konstantin Murakhtin, confirmed that neither he nor Lieutenant Colonel Oleg Peshkov, who was killed by Turkmen rebel machine gun fire after ejecting, had received any radio or visual warning from the Turkish F-16.

President Assad named Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Qatar as the major stumbling blocks in the fight not only against ISIS, but also terrorism in general.

He blamed the “regional powers” and the West for supporting terrorists and making “Syria a hub for terrorism.”

“If you want to fight and defeat them, you have to cut and suffocate their supplies, armaments, money and recruits that are coming mainly through Turkey, and with the support of the Saudis and Qataris,” Assad said.

The Syrian leader stressed that the same conditions would apply to what he called “the reconciliation process.”

Here he referred to the “groups who terrorize for money, or maybe for fear,” saying that they could enjoy amnesty if they laid down their arms as part of a deal.

“When they give up their arms, and go back to their normal life, the government [will] offer them amnesty,”he said. “You are not charged with any [crime], you are free to go to your normal life, but go back to your normal life, peaceful life.”

Yet, he added, “ISIS and Al Nusra and Al Qaeda offshoots… are not ready to give up their arms.”

“They are not ready to make negotiations with the government anyway,” Assad said.

Speaking to Czech TV about the possibility of a ceasefire between the Syrian regime and the opposition, Assad has said that reaching a peace agreement at a meeting in Prague was “realistic” – an option proposed by President Milos Zeman in September.

“If you ask the Syrian people, they would say that I cannot have a peace conference in France for example because France supports terrorism and supports the war,” he said. “They do not support peace. So, for example, if you mentioned Prague, there would be general acceptance of this idea because of the balanced position of your country.”

Info and maps on oil deliveries of ISIS to Turkey

Speech of the Chief of the Main Operational Directorate of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces Lt.Gen. Sergei Rudskoy

It will be impossible to achieve a real victory against ISIS without shutting down its sources of funding.

As Deputy Defense Minister Anatoly Antonov has already mentioned, illegal oil trade is the main source of income for terrorists.

To terminate this source of funding, the Russian Aerospace Forces have been delivering airstrikes on oil extraction, storage, refining and transportation facilities in ISIS-controlled areas.

Over the past two months, Russian air strikes have inflicted damage on 32 oil production facilities, 11 refineries and 23 oil pumping stations. A total of 1,080 tanker trucks carrying oil and petroleum products have been destroyed.

This has enabled us to reduce the illegal oil turnover in Syria by almost 50 percent.

According to the most conservative estimates, the terrorist group’s revenues from its illegal oil operations have gone down from $3 million to $1.5 million a day. Multiply that figure by 4 years. After Russian strikes the terrorists’ income has decreased and constitutes 1,5 million dollars a day.

However, terrorist organizations continue to receive considerable financial resources, as well as weapons, ammunition and other supplies for their activities. Certain nations, primarily Turkey, are directly involved in Islamic State’s large-scale business project, thereby aiding the terrorists.

The General Staff of the Russian Federation Armed Forces has irrefutable evidence of Turkey’s involvement based on aerial and space reconnaissance data.

Today only a part of available information is to be presented.

We have identified three main oil transportation routes from ISIS-controlled Syrian and Iraqi territories into Turkey.

The Western route leads to the Mediterranean ports, the Northern route leads to the Batman oil refinery and the Eastern one ends at a large transshipment base in Cizre.

We will show you the entire chain of oil supplies into Turkey, from extraction to refining facilities.

Along the Western route, hydrocarbons produced from the oil fields near Al-Raqqah are transported to the north-west of Syria by motor vehicles.

The image made on November 13, 2015 shows the stretch of the highway near the town of Azaz linking Turkey and Syria where you can see a concentration of vehicles carrying petroleum products.

The area “A”, located on the Turkish side, shows 240 oil tanker trucks and semi-trailer vehicles. In the area “B”, located at the Syrian side, you can see 46 oil tanker trucks and vehicles waiting to cross the border.

According to available data, a number of tanker trucks are disguised as simple heavy vehicles.

Similar map can be seen near Reyhanli

Despite the fighting in the Aleppo province, you can see a constant two-way flow of motor vehicles, as well as a large amount of motor vehicles on Turkish territory.

The video shows vehicles, which are freely crossing of the border. Here the Syrian territory is controlled by the Jabhat al-Nusra illegal armed grouping, which allow the oil tanker trucks and heavy vehicles with oil to enter the territory of Turkey. These vehicles are not checked at the Turkish side of the border. There are hundreds of such vehicles.

Heavy vehicles are crossing Syrian-Turkish border with no restrictions near Reyhanli

The image taken on November 16 shows up to 360 oil tanker trucks and heavy vehicles close to the Syrian border.

Up to 160 oil tanker trucks that just crossed the border are located in area “B”. In the direction of the checkpoint located in the area “A”, a convoy of 100 vehicles is heading to the Syrian border.

Space reconnaissance data confirmed that after crossing the border oil tank trucks and semi-trailers are heading to the ports of Dörtyol and Iskenderun, where special mooring places for tankers are equipped. There, one part of the oil is loaded into the vessels and is sent to oil proceeding facilities beyond the borders of Turkey. The other is sold on the domestic Turkish market. On average, one tanker is loaded with oil in these ports every day.

The space images of this ports dated November 25, 2015, show a concentration of petrol tank vehicles, which are waiting for shipment.

395 petrol tank vehicles were detected in Dörtyol, and 60 in Scanderoon.

The next route leads to Turkey from the oil fields located at the Euphrates right bank. The region near Deir ez-Zor is one of the largest oil extracting and oil refining centers that is currently under the ISIS control

A large number of oil refining facilities is located here, one of them can been seen at the screen.

In this region, a concentration of petrol tank vehicles awaiting shipment is constantly registered. Photos of automobile columns with little distance between each other are presented.

In the area of Deir-ez-Zor, space intelligence means detected 1722 oil transporting vehicles on October 18, 2015. Most vehicles were on the unequipped parking areas.

It is worth mentioning that the number of trucks at waiting areas, located in Deir-ez-Zor as well as in other Syrian regions has been significantly decreased since the beginning of the operation carried out by the Russian Aerospace Forces against the ISIS oil infrastructure.

There is no need to speak about ecology consequences of barbarian oil production.
Terrorists built oil lakes in the sand. One of them is located in Raqqah.

After being loaded with oil, columns of trucks are moving from the Eastern regions of Syria to Kamisli border town and waiting for their turn.

The presented photos, which were made this August, demonstrate hundreds of oil trucks and heavy vehicles moving both to and from the Turkish border.

Finally, the most part of oil is being transferred from the Eastern Syria to a large oil refinery plant in Batman (Turkey), which is located 100-kilometers far from the Syrian border.

The third oil transportation route to Turkey is laid from oil fields located in the North-East of Syria and North-Western areas of Iraq through Karachok and Cham Khanik Syrian towns and Zakho and Tatvan Iraqi ones.

The photos demonstrate concentration areas of trucks and heavy vehicles located near these towns.

On 28 November, 50 oil trucks were registered near Karachok on the territory of oil transferring point.

The photo demonstrates waiting areas of oil trucks located at the Syrian-Iraqi borderline near Cham Khanik. There were registered 380 vehicles in August. Everything has remained the same.

Reconnaissance is still registering movement of a large number of tanker vehicles crossing the Turkish and Iraqi borders. Even more tanker vehicles are registered on the Iraqi-Turkish border. Their amount has not decreased for the last three months.

Therefore, footage, dating from November 14, allowed detecting 1,104 oil trucks and heavy vehicles near Zakho and Tatvan.

They can’t fail to be noticed.

However, there not strikes on these columns from the coalition party. Only significant increase in the number of strategic UAVs is being observed.

Taking into consideration the fact that there are no strikes by the US-led coalition, the coordinates of active concentration areas with tanker trucks near certain inhabited areas will be published on the Russian Defence Ministry web-site after the briefing.

Then the trucks are crossing the borderline near Zakho with no restriction. Oil products are transported from Zakho to refinery plants. The nearest one is located in Batman. Oil products can be also transported to the large logistics center of the route, which is located close to the border between Iraq and Turkey, near Silopi.

The photo taken from the space on November 14 demonstrates presence of 3,220 oil trucks and vehicles. There is no need in further comments. The scale of the illegal business are truly impressive.

In total, in their illegal oil business, terrorists are using no less than 8,500 trucks transporting up to 200,000 tons of oil every day. Most of the vehicles are entering the Turkish territory from Iraq.

The Russian aviation group will continue performing tasks concerning liquidating oil infrastructure facilities of the ISIS terrorist organization in the Syrian Arab Republic. The Russian Defence Ministry also encourages the coalition colleagues to such actions.

Russia presents proof of Turkey’s role in ISIS oil trade

Turkey’s leadership, including President Erdogan and his family, is involved in illegal oil trade with Islamic State militants, says the Russian Defense Ministry, stressing that Turkey is the final destination for oil smuggled from Syria and Iraq.

The Russian Defense Ministry held a major briefing on new findings concerning IS funding in Moscow on Wednesday.

According to Deputy Defense Minister Anatoly Antonov, Russia is aware of three main oil smuggling routes to Turkey.

“Today, we are presenting only some of the facts that confirm that a whole team of bandits and Turkish elites stealing oil from their neighbors is operating in the region,” Antonov said, adding that this oil “in large quantities” enters the territory of Turkey via “live oil pipelines,” consisting of thousands of oil trucks.

Antonov added that Turkey is the main buyer of smuggled oil coming from Iraq and Syria.

“According to our data, the top political leadership of the country - President Erdogan and his family – is involved in this criminal business.”

However, since the start of Russia’s anti-terrorist operation in Syria on September 30, the income of Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS) militants from illegal oil smuggling has been significantly reduced, the ministry said.

“The income of this terrorist organization was about $3 million per day. After two months of Russian airstrikes their income was about $1.5 million a day,” Lieutenant-General Sergey Rudskoy said.

At the briefing the ministry presented photos of oil trucks, videos of airstrikes on IS oil storage facilities and maps detailing the movement of smuggled oil. More evidence is to be published on the ministry's website in the coming says, Rudskoy said.

The US-led coalition is not bombing IS oil trucks, Rudskoy said.

For the past two months, Russia’s airstrikes hit 32 oil complexes, 11 refineries, 23 oil pumping stations, Rudskoy said, adding that the Russian military had also destroyed 1,080 trucks carrying oil products.

“These [airstrikes] helped reduce the trade of the oil illegally extracted on the Syrian territory by almost 50 percent.”

Up to 2,000 fighters, 120 tons of ammunition and 250 vehicles have been delivered to Islamic State and Al-Nusra militants from Turkish territory, chief of National Centre for State Defense Control Lt.Gen. Mikhail Mizintsev said.

“According to reliable intelligence reports, the Turkish side has been taking such actions for a long time and on a regular basis. And most importantly, it is not planning to stop them.”

“One thing is clear. The role that Turkey is playing in this area is in many ways destructive and it’s affecting the European security, it’s affecting its neighbors. Ultimately it’s affecting its own society,” Uzi Arad, former head of research at Mossad, the Israeli intelligence agency told RT.

Responding to the Russian allegations, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has said that nobody had a right to “slander” Turkey by accusing it of buying oil from Islamic State.

Speaking at a university in the Qatari capital, Doha, on Wednesday, Erdogan once again claimed that he would resign if such accusations were proven to be true and stressed that he did not want Turkey’s relations with Russia to deteriorate further.

‘No way West was unaware of ISIS-Turkey oil trade’

What will be the reaction of Ankara’s Western allies following Moscow’s revelations that Turkey is involved in ISIS oil smuggling, RT asked experts.

READ MORE: Russia presents proof of Turkey’s role in ISIS oil trade

The evidence presented by the Russian Defense Ministry will be “partly ignored and distorted” by Western MSM, says Foreign Affairs Editor Srdja Trifkovic.

“I think that Erdogan will scream ‘blue murder’ and claim that this is all a set-up and a reaction to what he calls ‘justified downing of the Russian plane’. The real issue is what the US will do about this. Because it is quite obvious the Turkish tail has been wagging the American dog for far too long,” he said.

“My hunch is that the US will continue to be reluctant to really do something about it. They have had a chance to do so for 15 months prior to the beginning of the Russian air strikes on September, 25. The question of all questions is whether Erdogan will finally be pressed by his Western partners to shape up and to act like a civilized person, which unfortunately he is not,” Trifkovic told RT.

“I think the first reaction we’re going to see is embarrassment though that might happen behind closed doors. There is no conceivable way that Turkey’s Western allies were unaware of the oil trade between ISIS and Turkey. They have the same satellite and reconnaissance capabilities as the Russians. And they’ve probably known about it longer and in more detail. So, the first reaction will be embarrassment and I think a real scramble to recapture the narratives because this is public now,” said Middle East geopolitics analystSharmine Narwani.

Russia is working with the UN Security Council on a draft resolution which aims to curb the illegal oil trade with and by terrorist groups. Commenting on Erdogan’s possible reaction to the move, the expert said he is “a hot head.”

“The thing with Erdogan is that you never know quite what to expect. So, we may see an escalation, we may see de-escalation but it must be face-saving for him, he is a proud arrogant man… I think Erdogan will be a recipient of serious pressure from his NATO and Western allies on this latest Russian revelation,” Narwani added.

Pepe Escobar: Why Turkey Stabbed Russia in the Back

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and U.S. President Barack Obama
Russia’s and Turkey’s objectives in fighting the Islamic State group are diametrically opposed.
It's absolutely impossible to understand why the Turkish government would engage in the suicidal strategy of downing a Russian Su-24 over Syrian territory – technically a NATO declaration of war on Russia - without putting in context the Turkish power PLAY in northern Syria.

President Vladmir Putin said the downing of the Russian fighter jet was a “stab in the back.” So let’s see how facts on the ground allowed it to happen.

Ankara uses, FINANCES, and weaponizes a basket case of extremist outfits across northern Syria, and needs by all means to keep supply line corridors from southern Turkey open for them; after all they need to conquer Aleppo, which would open the way for Ankara’s Holy Grail: regime change in Damascus.

At the same time Ankara is terrified of the YPG – the Syrian Kurd People’s Protection Units – a sister organization of the leftist PKK. These must be contained at all costs.

So the Islamic State group – against which the United Nations has declared war - is a mere detail in the overall Ankara strategy, which is essentially to fight, contain or even bomb Kurds; support all manner of Takfiris and Salafi-jihadis, including the Islamic State group; and get regime change in Damascus.

Unsurprisingly, the YPG Syrian Kurds are vastly demonized in Turkey, accused of at least trying to ethnic cleanse Arab and Turkmen villages in northern Syria.

Yet, what the Syrian Kurds are attempting – and to Ankara’s alarm, somewhat supported by the U.S. - is to link what are for the moment three patches of Kurdish land in northern Syria.

A look at an imperfect Turkish map at least reveals how two of these patches of land (in yellow) are already linked, to the northeast. To accomplish that, the Syrian Kurds, helped by the PKK, defeated The Islamic State group in Kobani and environs. To get to the third patch of land, they need to get to Afryn. Yet on the way (in blue) there is a collection of Turkmen villages north of Aleppo.

The strategic importance of these Turkmen lands cannot be emphasized enough. It’s exactly in this area, reaching as much as 35 km inland, that Ankara wants TO INSTALL its so-called “safe zone,” which will be in fact a no-fly zone, in Syrian territory, ostensibly to house Syrian refugees, and with everything paid by the EU, which has already unblocked 3 billion euros, starting Jan. 1, via the European Commission (EC).

The NOW insurmountable obstacle for Turkey to get its no-fly zone is, predictably, Russia.

Using the Turkmen

Who are the Turkmen? Here we need to plunge back into ancient Silk Road history. There are roughly 200,000 Turkmen living in northern Syria. They are descendants of Turkmen tribals who moved into Anatolia in the 11th century.

Turkmen villages also sprout north of Idlib province, west of Aleppo, as well as north of Latakia province, west of Idlib. And it’s here where we find a rarely discussed bunch: a gaggle of Turkmen militias.

The myth of innocent Turkmen civilians being slaughtered by the “Assad regime” is, well, a myth. In Washington these militias are considered “moderate rebels” – as much as they have merged with all sorts of jihadi or jihadi-gobbled outfits, from the ever pliable construct FREE Syrian Army to Jabhat al-Nusra, a.k.a. al-Qaida in Syria (which Vienna finally branded a terrorist group).

The bottom line is that Turkey and Russia simply cannot be part of the same coalition fighting the Islamic State group because their objectives are diametrically opposed.

Predictably, Turkish media hails all these Turkmen as “freedom fighters,” a la Ronald Reagan in the 1980s jihad Afghan. Turkish media spins the whole of their territory is controlled by an “innocent” Turkmen opposition, and not the Islamic State group. Not the Islamic State group, yes, but mostly al-Nusra, which is virtually the same thing.

For Russia, there’s no distinction, especially because a gaggle of Chechens, Uzbeks and Uyghurs (Chinese intel is on it) have sought harbor among these “moderates.” For Russia what matters is to smash any possibility of a future 900 km-long Jihad Highway between Aleppo and Grozny.

And that explains the Russian bombing of northern Latakia province. Ankara, predictably, went ballistic. The Foreign Ministry had even threatened Russia only a few days ago; the “Russian side’s actions were not a fight against terror, but they bombed civilian Turkmen villages and this could lead to serious consequences.”

Ankara directly supports Turkmen militias with humanitarian aid but what really counts are weapons; truck deliveries controlled by the MIT – Turkish intelligence.

This all fits into the ruling AKP party mythology of defending even pre-Ottoman populations; after all they always provided “good services” to Islam. Syrian Turkmen are as pious as the AKP leadership in Ankara.

The plot thickens

For Russia, the area known as Turkmen Mountain, or heights – which Turks call Bayirbucak - north of Latakia province, is a major target. Because that’s where we find the Weapon Highway – through which Ankara, side by side with the CIA, weaponizes these militias.

For Russia, any possibility of militias allied with Salafis and Salafi-jihadis trying to make a push to conquer overwhelmingly Alawite Latakia province is a red line because this would threaten Russia’s airbase at Khmeimim and eventually even the port of Tartus.

So essentially we have CIA weaponizing – those famous TOW anti-tank missiles - using a smuggling route through Turkmen territory which happens to be an al-Qaeda in Syria-run Ankara power base. This is prime territory for U.S., Turkey and Saudi Arabia to undermine Damascus, and most of all prime proxy war territory: NATO (U.S.-Turkey) against Russia.

The CIA spins the TOWs go to 45 “vetted” – thus “moderate rebel” - outfits. Nonsense; the weapons have been seized by the more experienced jihadis of al-Qaida in Syria, as well as the nebulae known as the Army of Conquest, supported by Saudi Arabia.

So to smash Jabhat al-Nusra and the Army of Conquest for good, Russia STARTED to bomb the Turkmen smugglers, which are hardly “moderates;” they are infiltrated all over by Turkish Islamo-fascists – such as the ones who machine-gunned Russian pilot Lt. Col Oleg Pershin as he was parachuting, a war crime according to the Geneva Conventions.

The stakes for Russia couldn’t be heavier because by using Turkmen tribals, Turkey is already planted deep inside northern Syria.

So expect Russia to substantially increase bombing of Turkmen areas – way beyond just a reprisal for the killing of the Russian pilot.

Elsewhere, Russia has plenty of other options – as in further weaponizing the YPG; that would allow them to finally take over the stretch of the border between Afryn and Jarablus that is still controlled by the Islamic State group. Ankara will be apoplectic if Syrian Kurds unite their so far unconnected territory in what they call Rojava.

The bottom line is that Turkey and Russia simply cannot be part of the same coalition fighting the Islamic State group because their objectives are diametrically opposed.

Istanbul-based historian Cam Erimtan outlines the big picture:

“Turkey’s new government took the reins on the same day the Russian jet was downed. And now the wily Prime Minister Davutoglu and the unwieldy President Erdogan are engaging in damage control and domestic mobilization, for the moment even dropping their favored rhetoric of Islamic solidarity and PLAYINGthe nationalist card to the full. Even though the military action will no doubt lead to huge gains in domestic popularity, the economic consequences have already started to be felt, with Russia curbing the import of Turkish goods. This may indicate that the AKP-led government solely acted as NATO’s lackey, ignoring the realities on the ground and reveling in boisterous grandstanding.”

The grandstanding won't last long because Russia will react in a cold, calculated, swift, multi-pronged and unexpected way to the downing of the Su-24.

The Russian missile cruiser Moskva – crammed with air defense systems – is NOW covering the whole region. Two S-400 systems will cover all of northwest Syria and the southern Turkish border. Russia is able to electronically jam the whole of southern Turkey. There’s no way Erdogan will have his EU-paid “safe zone” inside Syria unless he goes to war against Russia.

What’s certain is that Russia’s number one priority from now on is to smash Turkey’s extremist strategy in northern Syria for good.
